The ILCA Finnish district wants to thank you, Laura, Todd, Hugh and International Lightning Class Association for covering membership for newcomers for the Finnish Championships 2019.

The district’s goal was to have a minimum of twenty boats signed up to the race and therefore hold the official status of the Finnish Championships set by the local ISAF sailing association. Promoting the class to the newcomers and getting them on board was the most important priority.

After receiving many inquiries, we can happily report 21 boats crossing the starting line at the race and welcome 20 newcomers to join the class and enjoy sailing Lightnings! Out of 21 boats, two crews were complete newcomers and the rest of the new Lightning sailors raced with more experienced skippers and crewmembers.

Kuopio Yacht Club showed a good example of how to organize a successful racing event. All the organization worked with a passion and settings for the event could not have been better. The race area was near the harbor, courses were made well and all the boats from advanced crews to newcomers had good racing every day. In addition, the weather was great with a nice breeze of 3-7 m/s wind.
