Welcome to Finland – Your Journey to Lightning Youth Worlds 2026
We are excited to welcome you to Finland for Lightning Youth Worlds 2026!
For many of you, this may be your first time visiting Finland and perhaps even your first international competition experience. We want you to feel safe, prepared, and warmly welcomed from the moment you arrive. This guide will help you understand how to travel from Helsinki Airport to the event venue at Vanhankylänniemi in Järvenpää. We’re happy to assist with airport transfers and support your team with travel arrangements. Don’t hesitate to reach out!
Arriving in Finland
Your journey will begin at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (HEL), Finlands main international airport. Finland is known for being safe, clean, and easy to navigate, and most signs at the airport are available in English.
Getting to Vanhankylänniemi, Järvenpää
The event venue is located about 30 km north of Helsinki Airport, near the beautiful Tuusulanjärvi lake area.
Option 1: organizer transportation (recommended)
To make your arrival as smooth and stress-free as possible, the event organization can assist teams with transportation from the airport to the venue.
If your team would like support with airport transfers, please include your travel details in the event survey. We will coordinate transportation arrangements based on arrival times and team needs.
This is especially recommended for:
- first-time visitors to Finland
- younger participants
- teams arriving late in the evening
- teams traveling with large equipment or luggage
Option 2: train
Finland’s train system is safe, reliable, and easy to use.
- Follow the airport signs to the train station.
- Take the I or P train from the airport to Tikkurila station.
- Change to an R train heading toward Riihimäki.
- Exit at Järvenpää station.
From Järvenpää station:
- taxi ride to the venue takes about 5–10 minutes
- the event organization can assist you
Total travel time is usually around 40–60 minutes.
Option 3: taxi
Taxis are available directly outside the airport terminals.
Travel time:
- approximately 25–35 minutes
Estimated cost:
- around 50–80€ depending on traffic and time of day
We recommend using Taksi Helsinki or Lähitaksi but apps such as Uber or Bolt also work in the Helsinki region.
